About this product
Vintage Color is the set that turned the Sarasa Clip from a school pen into a journaling staple. Mechanically nothing changes - the same 0.5mm tip, the same water-based pigment gel ink, the same movable binder clip, the same JF-0.5 refill - but the ink is mixed toward dusk rather than toward the primary colors. Written on cream paper these read as ink that has aged: darkened blues, browned reds, greens pulled most of the way to black. Zebra's own framing is that they are colors you can use instead of black, closer to fountain pen ink than to stationery ink, which is why planner and scrapbook users buy them over a rainbow pack. This is the original five-color set, JJ15-5C-VI-N; a second set of additional colors extends the same palette rather than repeating it. Because the ink is pigment rather than dye, the muted tones stay muted instead of shifting or fading over months in a notebook. Made in Japan by Zebra.
How to use
- Use these where you would normally use black - they are dark enough for daily writing, not pale accent colors.
- Write on cream or off-white paper if you want the aged effect; on bright white the tones read simply as deep and desaturated.
- Give gel ink a couple of seconds before closing a notebook, since it sits wetter on the surface than oil-based ink.
- Refill individual pens with Zebra JF-0.5 cartridges in the matching vintage color rather than replacing the barrel.
